House in South Yarra

This project stands out with white brick, black windows, and a form that is sculpted around a corner block. The subtle use of offset brickwork helps to articulate the windows in the façade, so they're not just punctures. Rather, they are articulate and somewhat sensitive within the angled form of the building. The proposal consists of two units, one on top of the other. Both had off-street car spaces and generous landscaped areas that connected the inside and outside spaces.

Setbacks to the west of the building allow for sculpting of the building geometry. The chamfer to the western corner remains clad in brickwork. Upper and lower levels are separated by continuous windows that wrap around. The corner treatment to the corner of Argo and Osborne Streets is curved brickwork that further breaks away from the angles of the upper building element. The success of this project is in the geometry of the building. Complex yet simple to look at, the project easily complements the surrounding streetscape.
